Application preparation · Sources checked 7 November 2026
The documents needed depend on your residency, employment and income. Preparing current, readable records can reduce repeated requests, but does not guarantee approval.
A useful application starts with a clear purpose, a realistic repayment budget and the right information. Use the checklist below to organise your records, then ask the lender which documents and date ranges apply to you.
Documents to discuss with the lender
| Information | Examples to confirm | Before your appointment |
|---|---|---|
| Identity and residency | NRIC, or passport and valid pass where applicable | Check validity and bring what the lender requests for verification. |
| Income and employment | Recent payslips, employment details or other requested income records | Confirm the required period and whether alternatives are accepted. |
| Residential address | Current proof of address if requested | Ask what is accepted if a bill is not in your name. |
| Existing commitments | Current repayment amounts and relevant loan statements | List all regular repayments, not just the largest one. |
This is a preparation list, not a promise that every lender accepts the same documents. Avoid sending a large bundle of sensitive records before confirming that the recipient and channel are correct.
If you are self-employed or your income varies
Explain how you earn and how regularly you are paid. Ask whether tax assessments, business-income records or bank statements are needed, and for which period. Do not alter documents to make fluctuating earnings appear fixed. A realistic picture is more useful for assessing a repayment you can manage.
If you do not have a requested document
Tell the team before your visit. Ask whether an alternative is acceptable and whether the appointment should be rescheduled. Bringing an unrelated document without checking may mean another trip.
You can use this short enquiry:
“I would like to enquire about a personal loan. My residency status is [status] and my income comes from [employment or self-employment]. Please confirm the documents and date ranges I should prepare, and the approved way to provide them.”
Prepare your budget alongside your documents
Make a separate list of rent or housing costs, food, utilities, transport, family commitments and existing debt payments. Keep a reserve for expenses that do not arrive every month. Use our borrowing-limit and budget guide to separate the legal limit from what fits your household.
Keep your information safe
- Verify the lender’s business name, website and approved address using the official Registry list.
- Never give anyone your Singpass password, online-banking password or one-time password.
- Do not leave your identity document or bank card with a lender.
- Do not sign a blank or incomplete contract. Ask for unclear terms to be explained.
An online enquiry can begin the conversation. It does not replace the required face-to-face verification at the lender’s approved premises.
What to check at the appointment
- Confirm the amount you will actually receive after any fee.
- Read the repayment schedule and ask how interest and any late charges are calculated.
- Check that the names, amounts and dates match what was explained.
- Keep your contract copy and a record of each later repayment.
